Biography

Born in the comfortable Central district of Hong Kong, Siu Mei Lin was a close protection operative before joining the Special Duties Unit (SDU). With her acute reflexes and cunning CQB methods, she took the lead on several VIP and witness protection operations.

Having deployed an explosive short-range power and combat skills, she joined an elite security service school after graduation. Aiming to become an all-purpose operative, she traveled to a female exclusive training facility in Tel Aviv, Israel. She spent two years there, developing an expertise in firearms and driving maneuvers. Part of Operation High Sun.

After completing her program she returned to Hong Kong, where she ensured the protection of several high-risk profiles. In 2008, she reoriented her toward the police force after being involved in a kidnapping situation.

She was first recruited to review the processes used by the Police Tactical Force’s Security Wing. During this time, her interest to lead international rescue operations grew, which drove her to apply to the SDU.

As a Flying Tiger (SDU), she uses her experience in close protection to ensure minimum casualties while leading high-risk operations amidst Hong Kong’s dense urban population.

Detailed information on how to play the Ying R6 Siege

Utility

What is the utility?

Candela is a cluster flash charge which operates similarly to stun grenades. Ying R6 operator comes equipped with 4 Candelas.

Each Candela has six flash charges where the single charge can blind the defender within its effective range.

THE RANGE OF CANDELA EFFECT
The range of Candela is higher than for Stun grenades (up to around 10 meters).

DURATION OF CANDELA EFFECT
Defenders affected by only a single flash charge at the farthest range will be impacted for only around half a second.
Operators can be blinded for 1.4 second from Candela.

CANDELAS USAGE MODES

Candelas have two modes of usage:

  • Throwing – can be thrown just like grenades, but will roll when hitting the ground instead of bouncing as a grenade would. Candelas will fire in a star pattern in this usage mode.
  • Planting – just like Fuze cluster charges so only on penetrable surfaces, barricades. Candelas will be fired in a straight line from right to left.
FRIENDLY BLIND IS ON!
Candela blinds both enemies and allies, except for Ying who is immune to her flash charges. She is, however, impacted by stun grenades and Blitz flash.
The only operator who can avoid being flashed is Warden.

TURNING AWAY FROM CANDELA
A significant difference between Candelas and Stun grenades is that opponents can turn away from Stun grenades to avoid being blinded. The same technique does not work with Candelas!

How to use utility?

Ying-trailer-4_compressed
Ying Rainbow Six Siege operator is capable of “cooking” Candelas in her hand. To do so, you need to hold the ability button.
“Cooking” operates similarly to frag grenades.
When holding the grenade in your hand, Candela will start lighting up lights, up to 3 fuze lights.
Each light represents the shortened time between impact till activation of charges:
  • no lights – 5 seconds
  • One light – 3 seconds
  • Two lights – 1 second
  • Three lights – immediate detonation
COOKING CANDELA
In case you haven’t played R6 Siege Ying since the end of Year 3:
Yes, Candela worked in the opposite way before Year 4. Ubisoft has reversed the fuzing mechanic to fit the intended playstyle and avoiding the abuse of spamming Candelas.

When throwing:
  • fires charges in a star pattern
  • Aim to throw Candela in the middle of the room due to the mentioned pattern.
  • thanks to different fuze timings, you can time multiple Candelas to achieve massive flash across numerous rooms
When planting:
  • fired in line from right to left, similarly to Fuze Cluster charges
  • use that knowledge to place Candela at a proper angle to maximize coverage
CANDELA INCONSISTENCY
Candela can be a potent tool but is very inconsistent at the same time. I’ve had multiple situations where enemies would not be impacted by Candela thrown into the room they are at. That usually happens when elements of the environment block flash charges.
A situation where Ying considers everyone in a particular location being blinded, while an enemy is just not, are the most infuriating deaths. For that reason, we suggest throwing a couple of Candelas to maximize the chances of successfully blinding enemies.
You can time them almost together by throwing one Candela with a timer set on “1” and a second cluster with “2” fuze time.
For maximum coverage, we recommend throwing Candelas at different angles.

WHERE TO USE CANDELA
The best locations to utilize Ying’s ability are:
  • areas without tons of objects in them which could block flash charges
  • narrow corridors or small rooms for maximum coverage
  • objective sites
Candelas are at their best against:
  • clearing rooms from defenders
  • plant denial
MOST COMMON MISTAKES
  • rushing in before Candelas detonate
  • rushing in the room while defenders are in an adjacent location
  • flash charges obstructed by the environment leading to enemies not being flashed
  • flashing teammates
  • blinding location and not pushing defenders fast enough

Interactions

SYNERGIES

Ying can be supported by Thatcher, who is capable of effectively neutralizing Jager’s ADS. Helps Ying ensuring her Candelas won’t be offset.
Twitch and IQ can perform a similar role, but with less reliability.
Additionally, operators with access to stun grenades can “burn” ADS.

Ying can synergize well with Fuze thanks to a similar technique of using both operator’s gadgets. Fuze cluster charges benefit naturally from enemies being flashed – makes it almost impossible to escape cluster charges.

Counters:

  • All defenders beside Warden
  • plant denial

Countered by:

  • Jäger‘s ADS
Just like a grenade or Fuze’s Cluster charges, Candelas are intercepted by ADS.
However, Candelas interact with ADS differently depending on usage technique:
When thrown Candelas are intercepted as a grenade before detonation, meaning that 1 Candela will burn 1 ADS charge.
When used in “placement” mode and detonated, each Flash charge (6 in each Candela) will burn 1 ADS charge.
This means that when detonated 1 Candela can burn all 3 ADS!
  • bullets and explosives
When thrown or rolling Candela can be shot with bullets or destroyed by impact grenades. Cannot be shot once detonated
  • fortifications/obstacles
Anchors fortified behind cover – make it deployable shields or elements of the environment – may not be affected by Candela’s flash charges.
  • electrified elements
Barbed wires, shields, and walls.
Candelas are destroyed when making contact with electrified by Bandit or Kaid elements. The most common interaction happens with barbed wires.

Ying R6 Siege

Playstyle

ENTRY FRAGGER

Entry fraggers are a “tip of the spear,” thus being a force to penetrate through the initial line of defense and give attackers an edge.
Such role assignment means Ying will be the leading operator in hunting down roamers.
Hunting roamers minimizes risks of late-round flanks impacting negatively your final objective push.
Check our guide dedicated to roam clear to learn more.
BE DECISIVE!
As a fragger, you are expected to be decisive and not afraid to challenge defenders!
Furthermore, entry fraggers play a vital role in advancing attackers’ progress during the round by securing strategically important locations, i.e. taking control of the room above the objective site, if the ceiling is covered with the destructible surface.
Or being the first attacker to control areas frequently traversed by defenders to rotate to/from the objective.

ENTRY POINT SELECTION
Last but not least, entry fragger is more often than not the first attacker to push anchors hunkered down on the objective. I recommend that during the preparation phase in R6 Siege, you decide on your entry point depending on personal preferences, defensive setup & your team’s plan of attack.

Leaving your drone at your entry point will provide you with the right amount of initial intel. It is not uncommon for defenders to try to catch attackers off guard by setting up traps on entry points. You can neutralize the element of surprise for such a plan and prefire defenders (or avoid them) by knowing what they intend to do and where they are.

Ying R6 operator is especially good at pushing objective sites due to her “flashy” utility.

Difficulty

HARD

Easy to use in very basic ways as throwing Candelas in the room that Ying pushes provide an advantage.
However, to master utilizing Ying, the player is  required to have:
  • coordination in a team for maximum effectiveness
  • advanced map knowledge
  • extensive experience
  • aggressive, yet calculated playstyle

Loadout suggestion

Loadout choices are an individual aspect, and rarely there is a “go-to” loadout in R6 Siege.
Sight choices are purely personal and depend on the player’s playstyle, map, even objective & specific role.
Please treat the below suggestion as what it is – our preferences.
We encourage you to experiment to find your setup.

Remember, just because something works for someone else, does not mean it has to and will work for you!

Why such loadout?

PRIMARY WEAPONS
Ying R6 operator is a rather unique case where using a shotgun (SIX12) as a primary weapon on the attacking side makes actual sense
Due to Ying’s playstyle, you will be frequently pushing defenders in short-range where shotgun shines. Such a choice depends on the objective and whether I play in the pre-made team or not.
If you feel comfortable with being limited to close-range encounters with your primary weapon and pistol as the only option on distance, then SIX12 might be just for you!

LMG
However, as a default option, I would go with LMG (T-95), which used to be a marshmallow gun but was buffed since Ying’s release.
As of the moment of writing this guide, LMG has a very decent 46 damage per bullet, while maintaining a low 650 RPM rate of fire.
T-95 comes with good 80 bullets per magazine and extremely fast reload times for LMG weapons – it is basically as fast as reloading AR!
Vertical climb on first shots has been greatly reduced. Thus we recommend using a compensator to help with controlling this weapon with long sprays. Gotta take advantage of those 80 bullets in the magazine!

SIGHTS
Due to Ying’s playstyle, I highly recommend equipping your primary with 1.5x scope or one of 1x sights. Also, the angled grip is recommended for aggressive playstyle and CQC.

Of course, ACOG can be a viable option, but I find myself in CQC extremely frequently. In such a range ACOG makes it difficult to orientate in terrain and locate enemies quickly. Reaction time is important as you have only a few seconds to kill flashed enemies.

SECONDARY WEAPONS
Q929 is the only secondary pistol available to SDU organization operators.
It is a very reliable pistol with high 60 damage per bullet and a decent 10 ammo per magazine.
With a muzzle brake equipped, Q929 has almost no recoil.

UNIVERSAL GADGETS
We suggest picking smoke grenades when playing Ying.
Smoke grenades can always come in handy for:
  • obscuring defenders sight
  • planting defuser
  • or helping Glaz by providing him an additional pair of smokes to leverage his unique utility

Furthermore, Ying has finally the possibility to burn ADS or Wamai Mag-nets on her own! This is a huge change as you can now independently deal with the defensive utility to use your unique Candelas.
Of course, you will struggle with 2 or 3 ADS placed nearby, but you can deal with 1 easily!

Now, in case you decide to go with Breaching charges, Ying can combine charges with Candelas to achieve a “flashing hot breach.” Such a hot-breach technique can be advantageous in a situation where defenders did not hear you planting either device on window barricades.
Bear in mind that in high ranks this tactic will be very difficult to pull off successfully.
