Biography

Meijer’s mother was lead engineer on the Huygens Atmospheric Structure Instrument that landed on Titan. Encouraged to reach for the stars from an early age, she earned her Bachelor’s in Aerospace Engineering at the Koninklijke Militaire Academie. Meijer later applied to become a fighter pilot in the Royal Netherlands Air Force. Unfortunately, her albinism meant that she had compromised retina and her application was refused. She changed her focus to systems engineering and earned her Masters in Embedded Systems at the Delft University of Technology. She also studied at the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Meijer eventually developed contact lenses that overcorrected her genetic deficit while integrating a state-of-the-art AR overlay.

To earn her doctorate in Geo-Information Science, Meijer joined the ESA Network and Partnering Initiative. This gave her the first taste of where she longed to be. Meijier later joined the European Astronaut Corps and collaborated with the NASA Virtual Reality Laboratory.

OPERATOR VIDEO

She participated in Project Sidekick in 2015 and traveled to the International Space Station. Her success with the project secured her spot in the planned NASA Expedition 67 mission. Returning to earth only fueled her desire to explore the farthest reaches of the cosmos, no matter the cost. She pioneered topographical mapping software that allows her to project a real-time, virtual copy of herself to anywhere visible by satellite or drone. It was this technology which caught the eye of Elena “Mira” Álvarez, and subsequently Six.[1]

Utility

What is the utility?

Iana comes with a unique utility of the Gemini Replicator. Once activated, the Replicator generates a hologram of the Iana R6 Siege operator image.
The hologram is then remotely controlled by Iana until it is deactivated, destroyed, or runs out of the timer.

WHAT CAN HOLOGRAM DO?

All the basic movement methods can be used with a hologram; thus, she can:

  • walk
  • sprint
  • crouch
  • go prone
  • lean
  • vault
  • aim down sight

WHAT CAN IT NOT DO?

Well, anything else actually:

  • shoot
  • melee
  • use a universal utility (grenades)
  • rappel
  • climb ladder

Therefore, the hologram is unable to destroy any barricades, gadgets, nor damage enemies.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HOLOGRAM:

  • The hologram has only 1hp
  • Max usage time is 15 seconds
  • The player can deactivate hologram at any time
  • Unlike Alibi’s Prisma, Iana’s hologram is a perfect copy – it replicates her cosmetics
  • Gemini Replicator has infinite recharge capabilities – limited finite by round time, of course
  • Cooldown – when the hologram is disabled or runs out of usage timer – is ~8 seconds
  • Cooldown – when the hologram is destroyed – is increased to 30 seconds
    – Iana has to wait for a full recharge, regardless of the actual length of usage.
  • Deactivating hologram before full usage timer expires has no impact on recharge time – it’s always either 8 or 30 seconds

UTILITY ROLE:

Iana R6 operator is a heavily intel focused attacker.
The main roles that she will fill in from the utility perspective are:

  • intel-gathering
  • intel-denial

How to use utility?

MECHANICALLY:
From a mechanical standpoint, the Iana R6 operator’s utility is relatively easy to use.
Activation of utility happens by pressing the unique utility button. Once activated, hologram controls just like the operator does.

Deactivation of hologram can be achieved by pressing the unique utility button again.
You should remember, though, that Gemini Replicator needs some space with a flat surface in front of Iana. Luckily UI gives us an indication when the activation of the hologram is not possible due to our placement.

SCOUT FOR ENTRY FRAGGERS.

Use hologram to support your entry fraggers. Iana’s hologram should be used to go inside the locations first, followed shortly by your fragger.
Thanks to such usage, you get intel about the enemy’s presence with a quick follow-up action on gathered intel from your teammate!

Of course, you could say that drone achieves the same results, right? Well, to some extend. With Iana’s Gemini Replicator, you can achieve…

DISTRACTING ENEMIES

The second benefit of utilizing hologram is distracting and grabbing the attention of defenders.
Such usage can be applied to both initial entry scouting, as well as mid-round encounters.
By quickly moving through the location with your hologram, you can force defender(s) to place their entire focus on your replica. This gives your teammates an edge, similarly like Alibi’s Prisma on defense.
Every split of a second invested in correcting aim and shifting attention can be vital to the outcome of a gunfight!

USE IT AS AN ADDITIONAL DRONE

Another way to use Iana’s hologram is as a 3rd, or in fact infinite, drone. Intel is the king in Rainbow Six Siege, and Iana’s ability to gather said intel is impeccable thanks to the rechargeable nature of her hologram.
You can pop the hologram and scout a room or two in front of you.
TIP: unless you scout for fragger who follows the hologram, deactivate the Gemini once you locate the enemy. The recharge cooldown is longer when hologram gets destroyed by enemies.

KANSAS CITY SHUFFLE

A more advanced and somewhat situational way of utilizing Iana’s hologram will be a bait-and-switch tactic.
Iana ain’t no Bruce Willis, but she can use her hologram to make an enemy think she is on one side of the door, window, or wall, while in reality being elsewhere.

What will that achieve?

Well, you get them to aim left, while you are on the right – that’s a hell of an advantage if you ask me.
This method won’t work every time – rather a situational method – and will require you to use hologram smartly – as if it wasn’t a hologram at all. Once achieved tho, it will be nasty!
Want to see it work in the game?
Check the below Macie Jay’s video:

ACTIVATION BAIT

Last, and potentially least, you can bait nearby defenders by activating your Gemini hologram and deactivating it once the animation starts.
Why?
Since activation of hologram generates audible sound, the enemies might hear it. With such information, they may assume you are vulnerable and rush you carelessly.

REMEMBER: YOU’RE VULNERABLE WHEN USING HOLOGRAM!

A pretty basic tip, but we like to ensure we get the fundamentals covered – try to ensure that you are in a safe location as possible when activating your Gemini Replicator. Of course, it is not always possible to be 100% sure you are safe, especially when you are deeper inside the building. However, bearing in mind not being exposed to easy flank or angle is an essential criterion of placing your character.

Interactions

SYNERGIES

Iana’s utility synergizes well with entry fragging teammates.
There are no other specific synergies between Iana and other operators.

Counters:

Iana is not a counter to any specific role or function on defense.

Countered by:

Since Iana’s Gemini Replicator hologram has 1hp, any damage dealt to it will destroy hologram – including bullets & explosions (even from friendly gadgets).
A utility that destroys hologram:
  • Electrified surfaces by Bandit’s Shock wires & Kaid’s Electroclaw
  • Maestro’s Evil Eyes laser
On top of being able to destroy hologram, Evil Eye can also detect it not being actual operator (no heat generated by holo)
  • Mute’s jammers
The following utility blocks access for hologram:
Lastly, Iana’s holo is unable to see Vigil when ERC-7 (his cloaking device) is active.

Playstyle

iana r6 trailer 4_compressed
UNIVERSAL
Iana is for us a hard operator to categorize from a playstyle perspective. On the one hand, she is more than capable of fragging.
She has:
  • good primary weapons
  • medium speed
  • frag grenades
  • a utility that can aid her in fragging
On the other hand, her utility will be best used for intel-gathering and scouting for your teammates, thus placing her more in the role of support operator. Additionally, she does not bring utility that is vital to the team’s success, hence losing Iana relatively early in the round is not such a big deal (unlike Thatcher or Thermite).
Therefore, we categorize her as a universal attacker.
We recommend that you fit your playstyle depending on your circumstances.
The main two scenarios that we would consider are queue situations, which are:
  • solo queue
  • queuing with a squad

SOLO QUEUE – ENTRY FRAGGING

When solo queuing, you may try to use Iana more as an entry fragger.
Unless you are in a high rank, you probably cannot consistently rely on your teammates to cooperate and think alike. In essence, the solo queue is a lottery with team coordination, and cooperation is usually somewhat limited.

Such a role assignment means Iana R6 operator will be a leading attacker in hunting down roamers to minimize the risk of late-round flanks impacting attackers’ push negatively.
Furthermore, entry fraggers play a vital role in advancing the attackers’ progress in the round by securing strategically essential locations. An example of such could be taking control of the room above the objective site if the ceiling is covered with the destructible surface.
Last but not least, fragger is more often than not the first attacker to push anchors hunkered down on the objective.

PLAYING IN SQUAD – SUPPORT

While queuing with a squad, or at least a couple of friends, the situation may be very different.
If you drone for each other (and you totally should if you aspire to reach higher ranks in Rainbow Six Siege), then you should use your hologram as support to entry fraggers – just as mentioned in the utility section of this guide.
If you want to learn how to drone in a squad, then visit our droning guide.

Difficulty

EASY

Iana is not a difficult operator to play. She may actually be a great starting operator for new Rainbow Six Siege players!
Why? Cause she lets you scout your way ahead, which should help players who do not know the map all that well or when they lose drones too easily.

To sum up Iana’s difficulty: Low skill entry-level needed with potential high skill ceiling.
  • Easy to use utility – does not require map knowledge (in fact helps with it), nor is hard mechanically
  • Not vital to teams success (unlike Thatcher or Thermite)

Loadout suggestion

Loadout choices are an individual aspect, and rarely there is a “go-to” loadout in R6 Siege.
Sight choices are purely personal and depend on the player’s playstyle, map, even objective & specific role.
Please treat the below suggestion as what it is – our preferences.
We encourage you to experiment to find your setup.

Remember, just because something works for someone else, does not mean it has to and will work for you!

Why such loadout?

PRIMARY WEAPONS

ARX200 is a good gun, don’t get us wrong here. However, we really don’t like that small ass clip of 20 bullets.
If you like ARX200, then try it with a flash hider. The gun works very well with this barrel!

Now when it comes to loadout options for G36C.
We suggest two potential types of setup due to the universal playstyle Iana offers. Thus your setup with this gun should depend on your style:
  • entry fragging – 1x sight
  • support-oriented – 2.0x scope

SECONDARY WEAPONS

Not much debate here. Ubisoft did not give us an option to choose any other secondary weapon besides MK1.
As in the case of most operators, the suppressor is not necessary for Iana. Her playstyle does not revolve around being sneaky, unlike Nokk’s or Caveira’s.
Muzzle brake significantly improves the recoil of pistols, so its a great pick up for MK1.

UNIVERSAL GADGETS

Both available grenade types are a good choice!
The choice should mainly depend on how you intend to play and what your team needs.
We usually run Frag grenades on Iana since they improve her already good fragging potential.
Frags are useful to deal with fortified defenders and dealing with defensive utility.

Smoke grenades, on the other hand, will be handy if:
  • your team runs no other attacker with smokes
  • you tend to play as a support player
  • you’re the designated defuser planter
Smokes are great to obscure defenders’ LoS and give you coverage, especially when planting the defuser.
